Welcome To The Danish Continence Society
The Danish Continence Society (Kontinensforeningen) is a Society for patients – men, women and children - with bladder and/or bowel incontinence and the professionals who treat them.
The Society was founded in 1987 and has as one of its main goals to actively inform and help incontinence sufferers and their families. The Society strives to help and guide every sufferer individually with their physical problems as well as the challenging social aspects of incontinence. It is indeed paramount to the Society to demystify incontinence in general.
What We Do
The Society communicates its message through, among other things, public activities. The Society has been active in arranging several public meetings as well as conferences for professionals on the topic.
The publication, “Continence News” (KontinensNyt) is issued quarterly to members, practicing physyicians and relevant clinics, as well as sponsors and members. The Society has also published several papers, informational booklets and leaflets on the different aspects of incontinence.
These publications are available through general practitioners, pharmacies, libraries and other public places and are designed to offer guidance and advice to incontinence sufferers - particularly those for whom the problem may lead to isolation.
The Society has also established a free hotline (Inkontinenslinien) where sufferers and their family members can call anonymously for help and guidance from professional Incontinence advisors.
About Us
The Society counts 1.700 members with the number increasing yearly.
The Society's board consists of doctors, nurses, professional incontinence advisors and physiotherapists – all working on a voluntary basis.
By focusing on all aspects of dealing with and treating incontinence, the Danish Continence Society helps contribute towards increasing the wellbeing of sufferers, as well as helping them towards a better quality of life.
It is estimated that, in the Danish population, there are approximately 400,000 – 500,000 people suffering from bladder and/or bowel incontinence. The yearly cost for incontinence help-aids (diapers and pads) in Denmark is between 1 and 2 billion Danish kroner.
